NEXT MEETING

Christmas Party

Dave Mulqueeney passed out invitations to the Club’s annual Christmas party.  They weren’t for you, because you can read about it here.  They were sealed in envelopes so that you could take them home to your spouses and significant others.  DO SO!  NOW!

Here is the information for you to read.  The Christmas Celebration will be on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.  Note that it will begin at 5:30 p.m., not the usual 6:00 p.m. of our normal meetings.  It will conclude at 9:15 p.m.

There will be no cost to members for the dinner.  The Club will absorb the cost.

There will be no silent auction this year.  Instead there will be an optional Gift Exchange.  If you want to participate then bring one gift ($20.00 value) per individual (if you come alone) or per couple (including one for your guest couples).  Each individual (who came alone) or couple will then be able to select a gift to take home.  However, after a gift has been selected, another individual (who came alone) or couple, who liked that gift, can take it from the one(s) who originally selected it, as their gift.  That can only happen twice.  The third one(s) to get it get to keep it.

There will also be a live auction of the three centerpieces.

Larry Bradley will lead singing Christmas Carols.  The High School orchestra will play.

This is a great opportunity to bring a guest or guest couple, to interest them to Rotary.  It does work.  We invited Norm and Tanis Larson many years ago, and look at what happened.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Crab Feed

The Crab Feed will be January 23, 2010.

Raffle of a 2009 Kawasaki Mule

Dave Mulqueeney reported that a Durham resident, Cory Pierce, is in Stanford Hospital awaiting a liver transplant.  Friends are having a raffle of a 2009 Kawasaki Mule to benefit the NTAF Sowthwest Liver Transplant Fund, in honor of Cory Pierce.  It will help Cory with his uninsured medical expenses.  It will be held on December 18th at 10:00 am at Jone Flying Service, 216 W. Hamilton Road, Biggs, CA.  Tickets are $100, each.  You need not be present to win.  Contact Dave for tickets.  Or, for more information contact  Melanie Owen and 624-8577 or 868-5331.

Camp Royal Program Needs a Chairperson

Roy Ellis  needs a member to take over the Camp Royal Program.  He indicates that the interviews come at the same time as he is dealing with the scholarship interviews an he can no longer do both.  If you are interested call Roy.

In Dar's football pool, the winners were:

-- First Quarter:  Dar Meyer

From Rotary International:

What can you do to increase club membership?
Rotary International News -- 2 December 2009

Have a supply of Start with Rotary postcards to hand out to potential members.

When it comes to recruiting club members, there are almost as many ideas as there are Rotarians, which is not surprising considering Rotary's diversity.

There are some universal themes that come up again and again. Others capitalize on new technologies and communication methods, or are targeted at expanding Rotary’s demographic reach. Below are 10 tips from Rotarians for increasing membership:

  1. Invite friends, colleagues, or neighbors to participate in one of your club's projects.
  2. Keep a supply of the Start with Rotary postcards and wallet cards, and give them to potential members.
  3. Encourage prospective members who live outside your geographic area to visit the RI Web site, view membership videos, and complete a prospective member form.
  4. Ask your district membership chair to contact qualified candidates who have come to the district's attention through an online referral.
  5. Talk with potential members about Rotary's humanitarian work, including programs like PolioPlus. Mention the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's involvement in the polio eradication effort through Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge.
  6. Invite professional women in your community to one of your club meetings. Initiate projects that focus on women's issues, and invite prominent women in the community to participate, speak, or lead.
  7. Maintain contact with all local alumni of Rotary's educational and service programs, and organize events for them. Work with qualified candidates to help them join your club.
  8. Advertise special programs or projects on social networking sites such as Craigslist, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Orkut, and invite visitors to your club meetings and events. Learn about RI's official social networking pages.
  9. Sponsor an open house (or an open meeting with a special guest) that caters to a demographic group or classification that isn't represented in the club.
  10. Maintain a Web site for your club so that interested individuals can easily find out who you are, what you do, and what inspires you.
