Group Study Exchange

A Group Study Exchange (GSE) team is arriving from Monterey, Mexico. They are firemen and paramedics.  They would like to meet with members of the Durham Volunteer Fire Department.  If anyone has a contact, please let President Mike know.  They will be attending our October 6th meeting. Chico Sunrise Rotary Club is looking for interesting things for the GSE to learn and do while in the area. Durham Rotarians were invited to contact Pres. Mike about things the GSE could do in our area.   Mike is working on having the Sunrise Club meet with us on October 6th  if they can stay up that late.

Past International President to Speak at Chico Rotary

Past Pres. Glenn, in June, while he was still president, urged all Durham Rotarians to hear former RI President Rick King when he speaks to the Chico Noon Rotary Club on Tuesday, September 22nd.   The Board of Directors voted to make this a meeting of record.

District Visioning Program

President Mike is proposing that Durham Rotary participate in a District Visioning program entitled Vision 2010 on October 27, 2009.  The District Visioning Team will be here.  The meeting will begin at 5:00 pm and end at 9:00 pm.

As I understand it, District Visioning Team is lead by Past District Governor, Candy Pierce.  She describes it as follows:  “A team of 3-4 volunteers from throughout the District will descend on Durham to facilitate a visioning process. Approximately 15-20 club members will participate and the mix should be: past and present leaders, future leaders, new members. The process lasts approximately 4 hours and in that time, the members of the club who participate will go through a series of exercises and at the end of the evening, will define a 5 year vision for the Rotary Club of Durham. Then the fun really begins as the visioning members take the program back to the club for strategic planning to achieve the defined vision.”

RECOGNITIONS

Mike Wacker had the successful bid for the Grinder and got it for $70.  Then he confessed to a new RV/Truck.

Bill Apger finally showed up for a meeting.  He came with a $100 bill knowing he was going to be recognized for missing many meetings, including one at which he had the program, and having an open house at his new office.  He contribute the $100.

Dan Davey, Norm Larson and Glenn Pulliam each contribute $10 for missing meetings.

Jim Kirks contributed $45 for having a birthday and being out of state.

The Board of Directors has voted to approve Floyd Miller as a new member of Durham Rotary.  He is proposed by his son, Bruce Miller.  Floyd is formerly a member of Chico Rotary.  K. R. suggested that his classification be:  ‘The Glass Man”.  However, Dan Davis indicated that such would not fit within Rotary classifications.  So his classification is yet to be determined.

PROGRAM

Craig Hastain introduced Bill Sure of the Jesus Center.  He spoke about the Jesus Center, the meals they serve, the people they help, the problems with drug addiction and the new clothing store they started in March.

“Must be Present to Win” Drawing

Mike (I think it was a “W” for Wacker in Roy’s notes) was present to win the drawing of that name.
