VISITING
ROTARIANS & GUESTS
Steve
Greenwood introduced Pat Pillsbury of the Chico Sunrise Club. Dan Davis’ table had no visiting Rotarians or
guests, so each member at the table contributed $1. Mike Crump’s table also had no visiting
Rotarians, but he had his program as a guest, and so escaped the $1
assessment. It was noted that it was
also President Glenn’s table?????
This will
be Roy Ellis’ Durham Rotary “Membership
Social”. Your job is to bring
one or more prospective member(s). Think
about the Harvest Festival and how much easier it will be to do if we had just
10 more members. So bring someone to the
meeting. It is to your benefit.
REPORTS
BOARD MEETING
There will
be a meeting of the Club Board of Directors at
Roy Ellis
announced that the students selected for
Girls: Nikki Pyle and Julia Herring
Boys:
David
Hodge and Shane Strick
Camp runs from June 14th thru
20th this year.
Work Day
President Glenn
again reminded members about the Rotary Community Work Day on
This is a
worldwide Rotary event where members join forces to tackle community service
projects in their neighborhoods, from planting to painting, from reading to
renovating. It is for the Club to get a
little publicity.
District Conference
President
Glenn announced that the annual District Conference will be held this year at
RECOGNITIONS
Steve Plume auctioned the Grinder for the month of
April. Jim Kirks had the successful bid
at $50. He reported that he will be
traveling to
Mike Crump reported that he would make up for missing
the meeting last week.
Steve Greenwood reported that late work caused him
to miss last week’s meeting and contributed $10.
Roy Ellis also contributed $10 for missing last
week’s meeting while constructing his wife’s second wardrobe closet.
PROGRAM
Mike Crump
presented Paul Gosselin,
Director of the County’s Water and resource Conservation Department. He discussed County water related issues,
including the effect of the current drought, that these droughts are cyclical
and will end (when is uncertain), the political attacks on the concept that
people located at the source of the water should have first call on it, and
other matters. It was very informative.
“Must be Present
to Win” Drawing
Andy Farrar
was present to win the drawing of that name.
The Paul Harris
Foundation and Points
Here is an email from Mark von Hoetzendorff, District Foundation Chairperson:
District
Club Foundation Chairs: Many of you have had questions about the Foundation
Recognition Point (FRP) changes recently announced by the TRF Board of
Trustees. I asked for clarification based on some of your questions. The
following is a good review and clarification of the Current FRP Process, and
that which starts 7-1. Please review, and of course if you have any questions
read again. If you still have questions call me.
Thanks,
Mark
And the response (edited):
Dear
Rotarian von Hoetzendorff,
Thank you.
Your e-mail was received by The Rotary Foundation Contact Center.
Points
result from cash contributions. If an
individual makes the contribution, then that person accumulates the points;
when the club sends the contribution on behalf of itself, then it gets the points,
the same with a district. Points are
like a two-for-one "coupon" and can only be transferred by that donor
entity to an individual.
Contributions must be made to The Rotary Foundation in order to receive
Paul Harris recognition, points and tax receipts. Club presidents may transfer club points and the DG may transfer district points.
The biggest
changes after
01 July
will be:
After the spring Trustee meeting
when all decisions are finalized, the changes will be posted on the website and
communicated to district leaders.
In summary:
1. Points may be transferred
FROM an individual, or FROM a club, or FROM a district but only TO an
individual. This will not change in
July.
2. Contributions made to the
Annual Programs Fund by clubs or by individuals or districts (or to
the restricted categories within the APF of Polio or Matching Grants with
number) will accumulate "points."
This will not change in July.
3. When points are given to
someone, it does help increase their recognition total, but it does NOT ALSO
give them points to use later. Therefore,
once points are given, they remain with that person.
This
will not change in July.
Please note, points are a result
of contributions, so when a person RECEIVES points, that person
will not also gain new points to use.
Kind
regards.
Deidra
To be continued: There were two attachments to Deidra’s email, one setting out the current process and the other setting out the proposed changes. I will include those in future Rowels.
