NEXT MEETING

PLEASE NOTE:  THIS MEETING WILL NOT BE AT THE BUTTE CREEK COUNTRY CLUB!

Dan Davis will have a business visitation to PFC Lighting.  PFC Lighting is located at 213 West 8th Street in Chico.  We will meet first, at Bustolini’s Deli and Coffee House for dinner.  It is at 800 Broadway.  That is the brick building on the southwest corner of Broadway and West 8th Street.  PFC Lighting is behind it.  There is a parking lot, on the left side of West 8th Street, down the street from Bustolini’s, between the PFC Lighting at 213 West 8th and the old blacksmith shop on the corner of Salem and West 8th Streets.  It is PFC’s parking.  You may use that lot to park in.  After dinner, we will proceed (walk) to PFC Lighting for a tour and explanation of what they do.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Durham Rotary “Membership Social”

President Glenn and Roy Ellis are sponsoring a Durham Rotary “Membership Social” for our meeting of April 7th.  So start thinking about member prospects to invite.

Camp Royal

Roy Ellis and Ged Andrusaitis will interview student applicants for this year’s Camp Royal at Durham High School.  Members were invited to attend and assist in the interviews, but it will have happened before you get this Rowel.

District Assembly This Saturday

There will be a District Assembly on March 21, 2009.  This time it is here, at Butte College.  It begins at 8:30 am with Check-In and a Continental Breakfast.  The meeting starts at 9:00 am with the District Governor-Elect Earl Kilmer.  It will then break into three different sessions.

The first will be on Rotary Learning & Development and will cover Rotary 101 (Basics) at 10:00 am, Club Administration and District Leadership options at 11:00 am, Leadership Academy and Visioning at 12:00 noon.

The second will be on the Rotary Foundation Programs & Membership Development and will cover Membership Development I and the Rotary Foundation I at 10:00 am, Membership Development II and the Rotary Foundation II at 11:00 am, and the Rotary Foundation III at 12:00 noon.

Third will be on Youth Programs & District 5160 Programs, and will cover Youth Programs I, District Programs including Rotaplast and Health & Hunger,  at 10:00 am, District Programs: Water & Sanitation, Disaster Relief, Fellowships and LN-4, at 11:00 am, and Youth Programs II and Public Relations at 12:00 noon.

At 12:50 will be a working lunch discussing Club Visioning, the first step in a Club’s 5 year strategic plan, the District website, club recognitions and awards for next year, the Rotary Convention in ?Birmingham England in Jun, the Installation Dinner in July, the District Conference in October and Rotary at Work Day (see below).

You are all urged to attend.  If we get a good attendance, then we may be able to get the District to do it here again.

Work Day

President Glenn again reminded members that he is still looking for ideas for the Rotary Community Work Day. Please come up with some ideas and pass them on to Glenn.  April 25th is a worldwide Rotarians at Work Day.  This is a worldwide Rotary event where members join forces to tackle community service projects in their neighborhoods, from planting to painting, from reading to renovating.  It is for the Club to get a little publicity.

Carnitas Feed

President Glenn announced that Norm Larson will put on the annual Carnitas Feed in the Durham Park for the meeting of May 19th.  President Glenn has invited the District Governor to attend.

District Conference

President Glenn announced that the annual District Conference will be held this year at Lake Tahoe on October 1st – 4th.

Paul Harris

President Glenn corrected some figures he had given last week.  He noted that our club has 66 Paul Harris members (which includes some wives) and has donated over $100,000 to the Paul Harris Foundation.  That is pretty impressive for such a small club.

RECOGNITIONS

Bill Apger was allowed to ring the Bell for his contributions last week, which made him a triple Bell Ringer.

Steve Greenwood was recognized for his 27th Anniversary.  He actually contributed $30 because the extra $3 made him a Bell Ringer, so he also got to ring the Bell.

Ryan Sutton gave back the $10 he won last week on the drawing and this week contributed an additional $10.  President Glenn didn’t want him to feel left out, because he hadn’t been recognized yet.

Dan Davey was assessed $20 (matching Ryan) for his trip to Tuscon and Indio playing golf.

Later in the meeting President Glenn was assessed, upon vote of the members, $30 for liking supervising the members of this club to the animals (swine???) he supervised as a 4-H leader.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Roy Ellis introduced the Students of the Month for January and February.  They were Pamela Mansfield and Steven Husar.   Each introduced the other. Listing their many, many accomplishments.  I thought this new process of having the students introducing each other was just Roy’s way of getting out of doing it.  But he said that it was at the request of a teacher at the high school.

PROGRAM

Bill Apger presented Steve Bertagna, former member of Durham Rotary and former member (12 years) of the Chico City Council.  His presentation was basically a question-answer session in which he gave insights to the operation of the City Council and to things they have done.
