President Glenn was back, but not his Club Bell.  He called the meeting to order without it.  He said that he has received two letters from the Bell indicating that the Bell may not come back, because he has not indicated that he is really missing the Bell.  President Glenn assured the members that he really misses it and is very interested in getting the Bell back.  He would like a meeting with the Bell to negotiate.  Meanwhile he asked Steve Greenwood to lead the pledge of allegiance, which he did.  Jim Patterson gave the invocation

New Member Installation

Dan Davis installed Daniel E. Davey as a new member of our Club.  He was sponsored by Daryle Polk, but Daryle could not be here so Jim Patterson filled in as his sponsor for the installation.  Dan Davey is a former Rotarian and a Past President.  He is retired from PG&E, so his classification is “Utilities”.  Welcome Dan.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

District Assembly

There will be a District Assembly on March 21, 2009.  This time it is here, at Butte College.  More information to follow.

Work Day

President Elect Mike reminded members that President Glenn is still looking for ideas for the Rotary Community Work Day. Please come up with some ideas and pass them on to Glenn.  April 25th is a worldwide Rotarians at Work Day.  We need to participate with a project.  On that subject, below it a communication from the district:

The next Rotarians At Work day will be Saturday 25 April 2009, and District Governor Jim Campbell would like all clubs in District 5160 to participate in some form.

This is a worldwide Rotary event where members join forces to tackle community service projects in their neighborhoods, from planting to painting, from reading to renovating.

Besides completing some terrific one-day service projects, this is also a chance for clubs to get a little publicity. They will want to contact their local newspaper, post it on their website, talk about it at meetings, share their efforts with anyone who should know about the good work that Rotary does, and even make up tee-shirts advertising Rotarians At Work along with the club's name.  And, clubs should be sure to go online at www.rotariansatwork.org , click on List of Projects and post their project and how many members will be involved.

Good luck!

RECOGNITIONS

President Glenn reminded Tom Vanella that his Anniversary was tomorrow (Wednesday).  Tom admitted that it was his 48th so contributed $48.

My note say that Glenn paid $7 for his birthday two weeks ago, but that cannot be correct.  It must have been Joe Nock for his birthday two days ago.

President Glenn has no Sergeant at Arms and thinks that protects him from recognitions.  It didn’t.  He contributed $25 for missing the last meeting visiting his son in Santa Barbara.

PROGRAM

Using the Club’s digital projector and his laptop (after a little fiddling with it) Walt Schafer presented the program that he had down for Chico Rotary last month.  It was about the time he and his wife spent in Tanzania working on a Rotary Clean Water project.  It was basically a planning trip and he described working with the local Rotary Club in Moshi, Tanzania and the local people developing the projects to be done.  He and his wife will return to Tanzania nest week to begin work on the projects.
