President Glenn called the meeting
to order, with a school yard whistle. It seems that he has lost the club bell,
but doesn’t appear to be concerned about it.
(There was a member who asked me for legal representation in case he
gets accused of bell stealing, but since he has not paid a retainer, he is
still on his own). Dar Meyer lead the pledge
of allegiance and Jim Patterson gave the invocation. |

VISITING
ROTARIANS & GUESTS
There were
none tonight, undermining Bill Apger’s theory that my announcing a Club
Assembly drives visiting Rotarians away.
NEXT
MEETING
I will present something. Let’s see.
Walt Shafer presented an interesting program to Chico Rotary last month. He would like to do it at Durham Rotary, but
is unavailable next week. He is
available February 24th, if Tom does not have a program yet. A couple of weeks ago, Bill Hollingshead, the District Polio
Plus Chairperson offered to present a program to the clubs in the District entitled
a
"Polio Booster Shot." I took
him up on his offer, however Monday he reported that he has a doctor’s
procedure next Tuesday related to his post polio syndrome, and is
unavailable. So I borrowed the clubs
digital projector and have it working with my laptop and you may learn about
REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Work Day
Pres. Glenn
is still looking for ideas for the Rotary Community Work Day. Please come up
with some ideas and pass them on to Glenn. April 25th is a worldwide
Rotarians at Work Day. We need to
participate with a project, so think one up.
Club Financial Report
Steve Plume
made a financial report to the members.
I could not get the numbers written down as fast as he was going, but essentially
we have about $49,000 in our various accounts and budgeted expenditures of
about $24,000. Steve recommended
maintaining a reserve of at least $8,000.
Steve has been doing a good job on getting a handle on our financial
situation. I am going to ask Steve to
give me the numbers in a report that I can publish next week.
RECOGNITIONS
President Glenn asked your editor where he had been
to miss the last several meeting. I
reported that it was mostly business, although last week it was because my wife
was having surgery the next day and I didn’t think I should leave her alone
Tuesday night (she is recovering fine).
President Glenn wanted me to be more specific so I asked him which
specific meeting was he asking about. He finally got to January 13th. When specifically asked I had to confessed
that I was in
Dave Jessen also had an anniversary. He contributed $32 for 32 years.
Mike Crump contributed $10 for missing a
meeting.
Bruce Miller said he would make up.

New Member Posting
Daniel E.
Davey has been proposed for membership by Daryle Polk and approved by the
Board. His membership has been approve by the Board. This is his second posting, so he is ready to
induct next week, if he had had his orientation.
PROGRAM
Daryl Polk
presented Robert O’Brien, who has been involved in racing pigeons since he was
a child. He brought several of his
pigeons and a video of a race. He gave a
very interesting talk about racing pigeons.
He talked about their history (which goes way back) and their use for
messages during the Second World War. He
discussed the raising and training of racing pigeons. He showed the pigeons he had brought and
their bands. He noted that science still
has not figured how they are able to find and return to their home. Members were so interested and asked so many
questions that the program did not conclude until
Drawing
Steve Greenwood was here to be the winner of the Must Be Present to Win drawing.
