Thanks to Jim Kirks for taking notes for me at this meeting.  No President Glenn, I was not on vacation.  Just  at  a mediation in Sacramento.

President opened the meeting and lead the flag salute.  Jim Patterson then gave the invocation.

VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

There were none tonight.  Bill Apger moved that Phil Price be assessed $1 per member for chasing away the visitors by publishing that Jan. 6th would be a Club Assembly. Bill explained how this met the Four Way Test. Andy Farrar and Ged Andrusaitus rose to disagree with Bill’s motion. Bill Apger agreed to table the motion until Phil is present as this would be worth the price.

He had better table it, permanently!  I move that Bill be assessed for illogic.  Announcing the meeting was a Club Assembly should attract visiting Rotarians, because they know that they will get to leave early.  They get a makeup for only being there no more than an hour.  Thanks Ged and Andy for your support.

New Member Inducted

Bill Apger introduced and inducted Craig Hastain, of Bearing, Belt and Chain Co., as a new member of Durham Rotary Club. Craig grew up in Glenn and Butte Counties. He became interested in dancing as a kid. He started Dancing Chico and presents dance events in Chico. Craig explained that he has a strong desire to do service work and serve the community. Craig explained after a review of the Rotary documents when a spouse comes with membership. The classification on Craigs badge is Dance Events.  His sponsor was Dar Meyer.

NEXT MEETING

Pres. Glenn announced that the Durham Rotary Club will be dark on Jan. 20th to build up strength for the Crab Feed on Jan. 24th. The Durham Rotary Club will meet at Golden Valley Bank on January 27th. The speaker will be John Lucasi, President of Northern California National Bank. Pres. Lucasi requested written questions from Durham Rotarians and 3 x 5 cards were passed out to members to record their questions.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Crab Feed

Pres. Glenn called on Steve Greenwood. In regard to the Crab Feed, Steve reported that ticket sales are close to a sell out.

Also, don’t forget about items for the live auction which is being planned for the Crab Feed.

Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival report shows gross revenue down slightly and expenses up. Sponsorships were down. The gross for the Festival was $37,000. Expenses were $22,000. Steve gave a check for $15,000 to the Club. Pres. Glenn thanked Steve for all his hard work.

Larry Bradley

Pres. Glenn announced that Larry Bradley and his family had flown to Nashville, TN, as Larry’s mother had passed away. The Club is sending a plant in her memory to the Bradley’s.

Thank You Notes

Pres. Glenn circulated a thank you note from Ed Banes for the $300.00 contributed to the Symphonic Band’s trip to Disneyland. Another two thank you notes were from Jan Hollman for the Clubs contribution of $500 to the Durham Community Giving Fund.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Steve Plume reported that the Club has enough money to fund future liabilities and has funds on hand for the Crab Feed expenses.

Donations

Norm Larson shared with the Club that Andy Farrar is trying to get the $1,500 from Durham for the Orphanage in Trujillo, Peru increased to $6,000 through Rotary International and our Rotary District.  International Service Director Andy Farrar advised that Rotary International requires a host club in the foreign country where we have an international project to oversee expenditure of funds. There are five Rotary Clubs in Trujillo, Peru and Andy is hoping that one of them will partner with Durham Rotary Club in the proposed Orphanage support project involving Sister Marie.  Also, Andy is looking into a water project.

Community Service Director Mike Crump announced that the Club had donated $500 to the Durham Community Giving Fund. Mike would like to have a visioning session to focus on what Durham Rotarians would like to be in 2012.

Bylaws

Secretary KR Robertson reported that the By-laws have been completed and adopted. He is working on the financial report for the Durham Rotary Foundation and just got the annual report form for the local Rotary Club.

Youth Services

Youth Services Roy Ellis reported that the Club is on target to identify students for Camp Royal.  Roy did complain that Camp Royal costs have gone up and that Pres. Glenn could write a letter about our concern about increased costs.

Roy had an inquiry from Chico Rotary about hosting a foreign exchange student. Please let Roy know if you are interested in hosting an exchange student. Also, Roy mentioned that a student from Chico or Durham could go to one of thirty foreign countries as a Rotary International exchange student for a school year. The involvement to club members is one of time. There is no cost to the Club.

Membership

Membership Committee Chairman Jim Patterson said that their goal is to get new members oriented and inducted in a timely manner. This has been accomplished for the three newest members. It was requested that the information on how to propose a new member be mounted on the Durham Rotary Web site. Pres. Glenn thanked Rev. Jim, Dan Davis and Bill Apger for their efforts to streamline the process for admitting new members into Durham Rotary.

Paul Harris Fellowship program and Rotary International Foundation

Community Services Director Dan Davis reported that he will be devoting more time to promoting the Paul Harris Fellowship program and Rotary International Foundation. He has completed the accounting for the 2008 Harvest Festival and turned the information over to Steve Greenwood.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Pres. Glenn announced that Roy Ellis’ term on the Board of the Durham Rotary Foundation had expired.  Roy was nominated and elected to another three year term.

RECOGNITIONS

President Glenn called on Ged Andrusaitus. Ged explained how he invited Steve Greenwood to one of his regular poker games. However, Steve kept peeling off twenty dollar bills and then left early. The guy who took Steve’s place at the poker table couldn't quit winning. Then Ged invited Durham Rotarians to tell Larry Bradley sexist jokes and enjoy Larry’s reaction.  Ged finally figured out that he had been married 23 years and contributed accordingly.

Pres. Glenn recognized KR Robertson.  Glenn showed a picture of KR standing by a Marine Corps flag and then a picture of the Rotary International float taken at the 2009 Rose Parade.  KR explained that he had followed Dar Meyer into the stands at the parade. Dar said he followed Mike Wacker into the stands.  KR agreed to be recognized for $25, and Dar agreed to a $25 recognition.  Since Mike has been a major contributor, Pres. Glenn agreed to take it easy on Mike and recognized him for $10.00.
