Girl Scouts Nut and Candy Sales
Jane Ziad had a Durham Girl Scout Troup at our meeting, to sell cans of
nuts and candy to us. Many members
purchased some.
VISITING
ROTARIANS & GUESTS
Jim
Patterson introduced Norm Larson who introduced Derek Wolfgram (his
program). Dave Jessen introduced Dar’s
guest, Craig Hastian (now I think I have his name spelled right). He also introduced his grandson, Dave
Jessen. Jim Kirks had no guest at his
table, nor did Daryle Polk (who was sitting alone with no one at his
table).
Since there
were no visiting Rotarians in attendance, President Glenn decided not to assess
the usual $1 each to the two tables with no guests. Instead he asked a member at each table a
question about something in last week’s Rowel or about Durham Rotary. It was going to cost each member at the table
a $1 if they could not answer the question.
Mike Crump knew that Dan Davis had been awarded a sponsorship pin. Norm Larson, with the help of other members
at his table was able to list the 4 club service chairpersons. Daryle Polk knew that the club had been
chartered on 1945. Another member
(sorry, forgot to write your name in my notes) knew where Ryan Sutton worked. No one was assessed.
NEXT
MEETING
The
program will be Kent Collins of Chico Ecocars.
He will talk about the new electic cars.
REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Christmas
Party
Dave
Mulqueeney reported that the Christmas Party on December 16th will
be a turkey dinner with a silent auction and a 40 piece symphonic band. If we can get Larry Bradley to visit, we will
get him to lead us in Christmas Carols.
Remember
to get your donations to the silent auction to Dave Mulqueeney.
Tell your
spouse about it and get in on his or her calendar now. Let’s do a better job of getting spouses and
significant others to the party. It is
also a good time to bring a guest, with spouse or significant other, who would
make a good member.
Crab Feed
Roy Ellis continued
passing around tickets. Each member will
get 4 that they will be responsible to sell.
Members are encouraged to take and sell more, but if not sold they must
be returned by the Christmas Party meeting,
A live
auction is also being planned for the Crab Feed. Start thinking about your
donations to the auction.
Tom
Knowles
Members
are asked to keep Tom and his family in their prayers. First, Tom had neck surgery last week. While still in the hospital, their daughter
Daisy was again hospitalized with difficulty breathing following what appeared
to be just a cold. She was intubated and
has had a number of tests. She now seems
to be improving. For more information
see Tom’s blog at: www.norcalblogs.com/pilot. Tuesday’s posting includes a photo of Daisy.
RECOGNITIONS
President
Glenn recognized the anniversary of Bruce Miller and his wife. It cost him $28 for 28 years.
Jim
Patterson asked Andy Farrar and Roy Ellis to sing “Happy Birthday” to him. They did, sort of. He paid $10 for the privilege?
Dave
Jessen reported that he had gone to
PROGRAM
Norman
Larson introduced Derek Wolfgram, Director of the Butte County Library. Members may recall the he spoke to us about 2
years ago, shortly after he arrived to become the director. He now reported on progress the Library
system has made including longer hours. He also noted a substantial increase in
library use. He discussed various
programs the libraries now offer.
DRAWING
Tom
Vanella was present to win the drawing of that name.
