VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

NEXT MEETING

Norm Larson is keeping his program close to the chest.  He was talking about a program on trapping wild pigs, but that only took 2 minutes to tell, so I expect it will be something else.

INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER

Bill Apger conducted the induction of Ryan Sutton as a new member of Durham Rotary.  Ryan is the sales manager for Chico Nisson.  He was sponsored by Dan Davis.  After the induction, President Glenn presented Dan with a sponsorship pin.

Welcome Ryan!

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Girl Scouts Nut and Candy Sales

Jane Ziad will have a Durham Girl Scout Troup at our meeting next week, November 18, 2008, to sell cans of nuts and candy to us.  We sampled them at the last Monday Night Football meeting.  Bring your money and help the Girl Scouts out.

Christmas Party

Remember to get your donations to the silent auction to Dave Mulqueeney.

Tell your spouse about it and get in on his or her calendar now.  Let’s do a better job of getting spouses and significant others to the party.  It is also a good time to bring a guest, with spouse or significant other, who would make a good member.

Crab Feed

Steve Greenwood passed around a list of the banners we have for the Harvest Festival.  Those who sponsored us at the Harvest Festival this year are in bold.  Lets try to get those who did not to sponsor the Crab Feed.  Contact those you  have contacted before.

Roy Ellis had the tickets to pass out and may have gotten some out, but not to all members.  I assume they will be passed out to all members at the next meeting.  Each member will get 4 that they will be responsible to sell.  Members are encouraged to take and sell more, but if not sold they must be returned by the Christmas Party meeting, December 16, 2008.  That does not include your required 4 tickets.  You cannot return those.  Any extra tickets you retain after December 16th, you have bought.  We are trying to avoid what happened last year, when it was thought that all tickets had been sold and then members returned unsold tickets too late to sell them.

A live auction is also being planned for the Crab Feed.  Start thinking about your donations to the auction

RECOGNITIONS

President Glenn passed around a picture K. R. Robertson which had been published in the newspaper.  It was also noted that he had won two quarters at the last Football meeting.  He contributed $25.

Clint Goss contributed $25 for missing meetings.

Norm Larson was assessed $10 for missing a meeting while elk hunting (without success), making him a Bell Ringer.

President Glenn assessed himself $10 for not wearing his badge.

President Glenn then recognized Dan Davis for his 16th anniversary.  He contributed $16.

Roy Ellis had won the bidding for the Grinder last month, but didn’t get it.  President Glenn gave it to him for an additional $45, which is the cheap price he got it for on October 7th.

PROGRAM

Ged Andrusaitis on behalf of Dave Jessen, who couldn’t be here, introduced Rick Farley with photographs of  the restoration of the helicopter he had at the Harvest Festival and the group doing it.  He explained that it belonged to the Northern California Veterans Historical Association.  The members of that organization have been restoring it from parts scrounged from all over.  They don’t intend to make it operational, but are still looking for an engine so looks complete.  They use it for educational purposes, taking it to schools, even the juvenile hall in Redding.

DRAWING

Bill Apger was present to win the drawing of that name.
