REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Election Help Project

At the end of last week’s Rowel is a letter received by Stan Thompson, Assistant District Governor, from Candy Grubbs, Butte County Clerk, seeking help on Election night.  President Glenn determined that this would be a good club project and last week he passed around a signup sheet for members to volunteer.  Tonight he was seeking one more volunteer.  I believe he got one, but if anyone else wants to volunteer, call President Glenn.  President Glenn reported that the volunteers from our club should report to DESS/Butte County Employment Center, 2445 Carmichael Drive, Chico.  The details and an explanation of the jobs was contained in the letter attached to last week’s Rowel.  There has been a change in the time since last week’s Rowel.  President Glenn indicated that the latest information he has received from Candy is that the volunteers should be there by 7:00 p.m., an hour earlier than reported last week. The date is, of course, Tuesday November 4th, a date we will not have a meeting, because the BCCC is a polling place.  We will be meeting on Monday at Mountain Mikes.  I believe President Glenn determined that volunteering will constitute a make-up.

Red Bluff Meeting Follow up

In a follow up on the District Information Exchange Meeting in Red Bluff, Andy Farrar is working with the Willows Club and the Orland Club to join them in a water well project in Mexico.  The cost to send a well drilling rig and a retired well driller to do the work is estimated to be $5,000.  Apparently, we can join the project by contributing 1/3 of the cost.

Christmas Party

Dave Mulqueeney reported that Jim Kirks has arranged for the Durham High School Symphonic Band and Music Teacher Ed Banes to provide Music for the Durham Rotary Christmas Party on Dec. 16, 2008.

Here is a copy of the latest message from Ed Banes:

“Hello Mr. Kirks,

I received your phone message yesterday. Thank you for arranging for
the chairs. As far as an honorarium goes, we always play for free.
Rotary is so generous to our school at graduation I feel that we are
giving back to our community by performing for you. We are, however,
trying to raise money for our performance in
Disneyland this spring.
Any contribution that your group feels appropriate would be greatly
appreciated, but not necessary.”

Dave Mulqueeney also reminded members to get their donations to the silent auction to him.

Tell your spouse about it and get in on his or her calendar now.  Let’s do a better job of getting spouses and significant others to the party.  It is also a good time to bring a guest, with spouse or significant other, who would make a good member.

Students of the Month

Roy Ellis introduced Carter Knowles and Ricahrd Galvin as the Students of the Month for the months of September and October.

RECOGNITIONS

President Glenn noted that Chris Hatch contribution last week, for his anniversary, made him a Bell Ringer, so he got to ring it.

President then asked Mike Crump, Tom Vanella, Mike Wacker and Roy Ellis about their missing last week’s meeting.  Mike W and Roy promised to makeup so were allowed to sit down.  Mike C and Tom each contributed $10.

Phil Price was assessed $20 for talking to Ged about the December 9th meeting, while President Glenn was talking.  Me, talking too much?????

PROGRAM

Chris Hatch held a Club Assembly on the Crab Feed.  It was agreed by the membership that the price this year will remain at $40 per ticket.  Each member will be responsible for selling 4 tickets.  You are encouraged to sell more, so ask for more tickets if you can sell them.  But it is important to get unsold tickets (beyond the 4 you are responsible for) back to Steve Greenwood early.  The return date hasn’t been set, but probably will be the first meeting in January.  Last year, because of late return of unsold tickets we didn’t sell 35-40 tickets.  That would have been 100% profit.  Roy will have the tickets available at out November 11th meeting, so be prepared to get them sold early.  We have 275 tickets to sell.
