VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

Chris Hatch, K. R. Robertson, Tom Knowles and Ged Andrusaitis were asked to introduce visiting Rotarians and guests.   Visiting were Will Wilbur, Georgie Bellin, Rick Leland, and Chuck Loshe of the Chico Club.  K. R.’s table had no visiting Rotarians so President Glenn gave him the opportunity to avoid the $1 each fine by answering a question from the Rowel, which was, who won the “Must Be Present to Win” drawing last week.  K. R. finally came up with the right answer, with a lot of help from his table.  For his not knowing without a lot of help, he was assessed $5, the amount the 5 members at the table would have contributed.

Also introduced was Ryan Sutton, who has been proposed for membership by Dan Davis.

NEXT MEETING

Chris Hatch will have a Club Assembly on the Crab Feed.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Election Help Project

At the end of this Rowel is a letter received by Stan Thompson, Assistant District Governor, from Candy Grubbs, Butte County Clerk, seeking help on Election night.  President Glenn determined that this would be a good club project and passed around a signup sheet for members to volunteer.   President Glenn reported that the volunteers from our club should report to DESS/Butte County Employment Center, 2445 Carmichael Drive, Chico.  The details and an explanation of the jobs is contained in the letter below.  President Glenn indicated that the volunteers should be there by 8:00 p.m. however, I note that in the letter, Candy request you be there by 7:30 p.m.  The date is, of course, Tuesday November 4th, a date we will not have a meeting, because the BCCC is a polling place.  We will be meeting on Monday at Mountain Mikes.  I believe President Glenn determined that volunteering will constitute a make-up.  If anyone else wants to volunteer, call President Glenn.

Red Bluff Meeting

President Glenn reported on the District Information Exchange Meeting in Red Bluff last week.  He attended along with K. R. Robertson, Jim Kirks and Andy Farrar.  They learned about projects other clubs in the District are working on.  Some are projects that our club could share in. District Information Exchange Meeting in Red Bluff

Christmas Party

Dave Mulqueeney announced that he will be receiving silent auction donations at each meeting from now on.  Please bring your donated items to him.

Dave Mulqueeney with K. R.’s help are moving ahead on the planning for the Club’s Christmas Party on December 16th.  Tell your spouse about it and get in on his or her calendar now.  Let’s do a better job of getting spouses and significant others to the party.  It is also a good time to bring a guest, with spouse or significant other, who would make a good member.

RECOGNITIONS

President Glenn asked Chris Hatch weather he had been recognized for his anniversary last month.  Chris admitted that he hadn’t.  So he contributed $41 for his 41st anniversary.

President Glenn then recognized Steve Plume.  You may recall that several weeks ago Steve wanted to delay the recognition of his birthday until Tom Knowles was present to sing “Happy Birthday” to him.  Tom did and Steve contributed $25 therefore.

President then asked Bill Apger, Steve Greenwood, Tom Knowles, Jane Ziad, Dave Mulqueeney and Dave Jessen to stand.  Each had missed a meeting.  All but Dave Jessen promised to makeup so were allowed to sit down.  Dave Jessen contributed $10.

PROGRAM

Steve Greenwood introduced Rick Leland who again gave us a slide show and video of his experiences during Hurricane Katrina.  Still interesting the second time around.

DRAWING

Dave Mulqueeney was present to win the drawing of that name.

Letter from County Clerk to Stan Thompson

Hello Stan:

As we recently discussed, the Butte County Elections Office is seeking help from the Chico Rotarians in the following positions for Election Night support on November 4, 2008.   They will be assigned to one of the Chico receiving centers (addresses below).

Ballot Runners ~ 8 people:  4 drivers, 4 passengers:

Each driver needs a car and one passenger.  At the receiving center, ballot runners load Voted Ballot containers, Memory Card bags and the Return bags into their vehicle.  They then deliver the Voted Ballot containers and Memory Card bags to the main Elections Office, 25 County Center Drive, Oroville.  Then, they deliver the Return bags to the Elections Warehouse, 205 Mira Loma Drive, Oroville.  There is a possibility of two or more round trips that evening.

Election Supply Loaders ~ 12 people:

Responsibilities are to remove election supplies and touch screen units from precinct officer vehicles and load them into the U-Haul moving vans.  They need to be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.  Recommend men work in this position.

Check In Assistants ~ 4 people:

At each receiving center site, we will need 2 people to assist our elections staff with check in of each precinct’s Voted Ballot container, Memory Card bag and Return bag.

Coordinator ~ 1 person:

Coordinator is responsible for ensuring Rotarians show up on election evening as scheduled and be the primary contact person with the Butte County Elections Office.

Pay rate:

Ballot Runners:  Drivers $8.50/hr plus mileage at $.585/mile; Passengers $8.50/hr

Elections Supply Loaders and Check In Assistants:  $10.00/hr

Time:

Arrive at assigned receiving center location at 7:30pm.  Ballot Runners could be finished at approximately 10:00pm; Election Supply Loaders could be as late at 10:30pm.

Receiving Center Sites:

Masonic Family Center, 1110 W East Avenue, Chico

DESS/Butte County Employment Center, 2445 Carmichael Drive, Chico

Once again, thank you for your interest in assisting us with the Election Day process.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Very truly yours,

CANDACE J. GRUBBS, County Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters
