DISTRICT FOUNDATION FAIRE

Mark von Hoetzendorff, District 5160 Foundation Director announced the District Foundation Faire. Speakers at the Faire will be very successful Rotarians from our District and D5170 who will share their "Secrets to Success." and some of the journeys they have taken and why those journeys are important to you as a Rotarian.

The "Faire" will be held Saturday, August 23rd at the Fairfield Hilton. The agenda and registration form are attached at the end of this Rowel.

For those of you who may be staying overnight, the Hilton Garden Inn is pleased to offer a special room rate of $109 for Friday, August 22.

                                                 HARVEST FESTIVAL

Steve Greenwood announced that there will be a Harvest Festival Committee meeting at the Italian Cottage on the Skyway, on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 7:00 am.  All committee members must be there.  All others interested can also attend.

Steve also reported that the T-Shirts are about to be printed.  If you have any more sponsors you haven’t reported yet, do it now, please.

RECOGNITIONS

President Glenn asked Chris Hatch about missing the last meeting.  He reported that he was doing his civic duty by serving on a jury and by the end of the day the attorneys had him too tired out to come to the meeting.  He paid $10 for missing the meeting and another $10 for his birthday.

President Glenn then recognized Andy Farrar $51 for his 51st anniversary.  At first he played dumb but when Glenn threatened to ask Dianne about it, since she was there, he quickly admitted the anniversary.

President Glenn then asked Roy Ellis, Steve Greenwood and Clint Goss about missing meetings.  Roy contributed $10.  Steve claimed the Grinder in defense.  Clint was “on the hill” during the fires.  He paid $20.

PROGRAM

Andy Farrar introduced U. S. Congressional Representative Wally Herger.  Wally discussed various problems facing Congress, including illegal immigration, energy (including the price of oil and gas) and fires (including forest management practices as a result of environmentalists).  He noted that Butte County has more solar energy facilities per capita than any other county in the state.  He discussed the huge oil reserves we have, but can’t get to because of the environmentalists and Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to allow the energy bill to come to a vote, even though a large majority of the population wants it.

DRAWING

Norm Larson was not present to win the drawing of that name.  President Glenn reported that the award will not increase for the next drawing because the last winner was not here.  There is not enough money in the budget to accumulate the winnings.
