VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

Tom Knowles introduced Mike Moran of the Chico Club.

Roy Ellis introduced his wife, Jan who was his guest.

NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be the Demotion of President Daryl presented by the immediate past president, Andy Farrar.  I presume that spouses and significant others are invited, as they usually are, but I haven’t heard.  I am sure Andy has something good planned for Daryl’s send-off.  Let’s all attend with our guests.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CLUB BYLAWS

K. R. has completed a draft of proposed bylaws for the Club.  It is being reviewed by his Bylaws Committee.  Upon completion of that review, the proposed bylaws, as amended by the committee, will be presented to the Club for adoption.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Steve again reminded members get the Durham Rotary 2008 Harvest Festival Sponsorship Forms they are responsible for back to him by the end of June.

He also announced that the July 1st meeting will be a Harvest Festival Planning meeting.  So bring your ideas for improvement.

RECOGNITIONS

Mike Wacker auctioned the Grinder.  It will cover the remainder of June and all of July.  Steve Plume got it for only $45.00.

Then President Daryl intoduced Bill Apger for his programs.  However, bill got started on recognitions by asking Norm Larson and myself to sing for his birthday.  We did and he contributed $10.

That was followed by Dan Davis asking Bill Apger to sing for his birthday and contributed $10.

The Glenn Pulliam volunteered $10 for his birthday as did Jim Patterson and your editor.

Norm Larson volunteered his anniversary and contributed $51 for his 51st anniversary.

Lastly, Daryl got his badge back from Bill for $10.

PROGRAM

The program was to be Bill Apger presenting “Steve Bertagna Uncensored”,  however, Steve forgot he had a City Counsel meeting.  Steve arranged for Gregg Payne, a public artist and former member of the Chico Arts Commission, and Jennifer Oman (she is a former art instructor in New York and Tuscon and a curator of the Backspace Gallery in Portland which received a critic’s award) to speak on public art in Chico.

DRAWING

Steve Greenwood was present to win that drawing.

Continuing our education on the Four Avenues of Service, from the Rotary International web site is the following on Club Service:

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs. Part of that is:

Membership responsibilities

W hat Rotarians get out of Rotary depends largely on what they put into it. Many membership requirements are designed to help club members more fully participate in and enjoy their Rotary experience.

Attendance

Attending weekly club meetings allows members to enjoy fellowship, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.

If members miss a meeting of their own club, they’re encouraged to expand their Rotary horizons by attending a meeting of any other Rotary club in the world.

Service

By participating in local and international service projects, club members can volunteer their time and talents where they’re most needed.

Finding and keeping members

To keep clubs strong, every Rotarian must share the responsibility of bringing new people into Rotary. Even new members can bring guests to club meetings or invite them to participate in a service project.

Keeping members involved in Rotary is another responsibility. Fostering strong fellowship and encouraging early participation in service projects are two of the best ways to sustain a club’s membership.

Dues

Club members are required to pay annual dues to their clubs, districts, and Rotary International, as well as the subscription fee to the appropriate Rotary magazine.

Leadership

Club members are encouraged to volunteer for leadership roles at the club level and beyond. To learn more about leadership opportunities in your district, see the district leadership seminar page and the club committees page.
