Glenn passed around a list of past sponsors with the names of the members responsible for contacting them. The list shows there past contribution and which ones we already have a banner for. Glenn asks that you let him know if one of the sponsors is yours and your name is not listed as the contact person, so he can update the list. Please get it done now. PROGRAM
The program was a Club
Assembly with President-Elect Glenn leading.
He indicated that his goals for next year fall into the following
categories:
1. Membership-we must increase our
membership. We do some major projects
compared to other clubs our size, but we need bodies to help.
2.
Community Projects- We haven’t done a community project in a couple of
years and need to come up with one.
More below.
3. Rotary Foundation – His goal is to get all
members to the Paul Harris Fellowship level, including himself.
4. Club Organization – We need to formalize our
club operations including an audit and find out where we are on required tax
information returns.
Regarding a community
project this year Mike Crump presented the following list of suggested
projects:
Proposed community Service projects-2008
2) Landscape Midway (trees) south of
3) Durham Community sign on Hwy 99 at Durham Pentz Rd Interchange
4) Bike/Pedestrian access from schools to
5) Refurbish Kitchen at Memorial Hall
6) Replace sidewalk (12 ft. wide) on Midway between
There was also discussion of completing the concrete and
related work still needed at
Members are asked for their thoughts on a project for
this next year.
Regarding the club, there was much interest in doing a
Club retreat at
There was also some discussion over the Rotary Avenues
of Service and what they are and mean.
So, from the Rotary International web site is the following:
For years, Rotary’s commitment to Service
Above Self has been channeled through the four Avenues of Service, which form
the foundation of club activity. To get started on a project, think broadly
about how your club and its members could contribute within each avenue.
Club Service focuses on
strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs.
Vocational Service involves club
members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical
standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through
their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.
Community Service is the
opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities
that improve life in the local community.
International Service encompasses
efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote
world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to
PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host
countries.
Over the next few weeks I will expand on each Avenue
with information from the RI web site.
