Valentine’s Day Dinner

This was the Valentine’s Day Dinner arranged by Jane Ziad.  She did a very good job.  It was a special dinner.

MISSING MEMBERS

The problem with the Valentine’s Dinner, as Norm Larson pointed out, was the lack of attendance by members.  We have about 30 members, yet less than half of them were present.  If we are going to ask a member to arrange a special dinner, we should all participate.  If we don’t attend, we don’t have a club.  As a result of the failure of a majority of members to attend there was a lot of food left over.  It is my understanding that the club is charged for a certain number of dinners, whether they are eaten or not.  Those added guests reported to Jane were added to our usual numbers.  But the usual numbers were not present.  For most of the time since I became a member of the club, members were assessed $10.00 for a missed meeting, if it was not made up.  That has fallen by the wayside in recent years.  I suggest it be reinstated to help pay for the dinners the club paid for.

VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

Roy Ellis, Norm Larson, Bruce Norlie and Steve Greenwood were asked to introduce visiting Rotarians and guests. The visiting Rotarians were Barry Sherwood and Chuck Loshe of the Chico Club and Mark Stuenkel of the Chico  Sunrise Club.

Since this was the Valentine Dinner we had a lot of guests.  The were Porcia Hatch, Peg Norlie, Cindy Price, Connie Andrusaitis, Jan Wacker, Linda Kirks and Dianne Farrar.

NEXT MEETING

There is no meeting on Tuesday, February 19th.  It is a travel day for President’s Day

The next meeting is February 26th.  Dave Jessen will present Dino Corbin from KHSL TV/Radio.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CRAB FEED

Steve Greenwood reported that our tentative profit from the Crab Feed was approximately $6,000.  Very good.

Durham Community Meeting

Barry Sherwood reported that he had attended a Durham Community meeting.  He indicated that various Durham community groups were represented, including clubs.  Contact Jan Holman for further meeting dates.

Durham Rotarian in Hospital

K. R. Robertson is reported to have severely injured his hand and is Enloe Hospital, Room 312A.  He has had one surgery and will have another.  We wish him well.

CLUB BYLAWS

K. R. Robertson asks that you get your comments to him about the Bylaws he distributed in December, which you have, I am sure, reviewed as he asked.  We will eventually discuss them.  We cannot find the Bylaws for the Club and need to adopt new ones.

District 5160 Conference

A Rotary Conference, Golf Event, Poker Tournament, a Rotary Club Hospitality Party in the theme of the Prospectors (think Gold Rush era, Paint Your Wagon).  The pricing is reasonable, the lodging is inexpensive.  There is a 25% discount for registering before December 31, 2007.  Go to www.rotary5160.org and get all the details.

Lodging is limited.  Call now for room reservations:

NEW MEMBER POSTING

Greg Casey, sponsored by Clint Goss, John Rivera, sponsored by Dan Davis and Dan Becket, sponsored by Dar Meyer have been published long enough.  When are they being inducted?  We lost one prospective member by not inducting him last fall.  I understand that one of the above is now withdrawing because the club has not bother to induct him.  What is the point of a membership drive and the membership teams if we are not going to induct prospective member the teams bring in?

RECOGNITIONS

Bruce Norlie was circulating photographs of his new (first) grandchild.  He was so proud that he announced the birth and contributed $100 to become a Bell Ringer.

PROGRAM

The program was the Valentine’s Day Dinner.  A special dinner was prepared.  At the end of the meeting drawing tickets were passed out to the ladies present.  The drawing was held and the following received flowering plants:  Jane Ziad, Tanis Larson, Connie Andrusaitis, Peg Norlie, Linda Kirks and Dianne Farrar.  For the rest of the party, see the photographs below.

DRAWING
