NEXT MEETING

NOW PAY ATTENTION TO THIS.  The next meeting is the second Monday Night Football meeting for the year.  The meeting is at  Mountain Mike’s Pizza at 1722 Mangrove Avenue, Chico  It is MONDAY night, not Tuesday.

Also, there is no meeting on November 13th.  It is a travel day for the Veteran’s Day holiday.  So the next meeting after Monday Night Football on the 5th will be November 20th, back at the BCCC.

NEW MEMBER POSTING

The Board had a brief meeting and approved for membership Ged Andrusaitis.  Ged is a former member and volunteers to help at the Harvest Festival each year.  His sponsor is Roy Ellis.  His classification is to be determined.  Also approved for membership was Bill Orthel, sponsored by Dave Jessen.  He is retired from CDF (now Cal Fire).  His classification is tentatively Fire Suppression.

INDUCTION OF NEW OLD MEMBER

Then Bill Apger was called upon to induct Gel Andrusaitus once again as a member of the Durham Rotary Club. Bill gave Ged 50-seconds to introduce himself to the Club.

Now that his kids have grown up and he is retired, Ged is doing the fun stuff. He shoots squirrels, sells nuts, plays poker, and restores and resells Corvettes.

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Pres. Daryle circulated a letter from the Durham Memorial Cemetery Association requesting funds.

Tod Kimmelshue moved that Durham Rotary donate $136.47 to the Durham Memorial Cemetery Association. The motion was unanimously approved.

Then the President asked for three past Durham Rotary presidents to form the Nominating Committee. Andy Farrar, Bill Apger, and Jane Ziad volunteered to serve.

Mike Wacker announced that each of the membership drive teams was tied until tonight when Ged was inducted. Now Bill Apger’s team has surged ahead by five points.  See the team list below.

Jim Patterson brought T-shirts to give to sponsors. Bill Apger modeled one of the shirts. Jim volunteered to check the list at his home of who contacted which sponsor and whether they were given a T-shirt.

Chris Hatch introduced Ged as the new Crab Feed Chairman based on Ged’s interest on volunteering for Durham Rotary projects. Later Chris told me that he will be co-chair with Get and show him the ropes.

RECOGNITIONS

Bill Apger asked Norm Larson where he was last week. Norm said he was in Eastern Oregon at a confab and hunting elk. They tagged out 4 elk and hunted chukar. Norm agreed to contribute $100 toward a Paul Harris Fellow for his wife.

Norm demanded equal time and Pres. Daryle turned the podium over to Norm. He asked Bill Apger where he was last week. Bill responded that he was in Eastern Oregon and rode around in the back of a pick up. Bill reported that he got his first bull elk and four chukar. The woman who cooked at the ranch is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and Bill was having trouble getting into his trousers now. Bill donated $100 towards his wife’s Paul Harris Fellow.

PROGRAM

Susan Tevis, Eric Miller and Janie Gross from the Children’s Choir of Chico were introduced. Janie’s husband was a member of Durham Rotary some years ago. He received a pair of white rats that he had to care for because he missed a meeting and failed to make it up. He had to keep the rats until he could pass them on to another member who subsequently missed a meeting and failed to make it up.

Ms. Tevis, the Choral Director, screen a video about the Children’s Choir of Chico. Then Eric Miller, Choir Treasurer, spoke about the Choir and the information in the PowerPoint presentation about the choral group. He invited Rotarians to come to Children’s Choir of Chico performances.

Janie Gross stressed that one can enjoy singing for a lifetime. The Children’s Choir of Chico is asking for a hand up not a hand out. They would be willing to come and sing at the Harvest Festival for example.

Pres. Daryle thanked them for an informative program and asked Susan Tevis to sign a book to be given to the Durham Intermediate School Library.
