REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

NEXT WEEK’S MEETING WILL BE AT THE

COURT THEATRE WITH CHICO ROTARY

The meeting for July 17, 2007 will be with the Chico Rotary Club.  It is a meeting of record for the Chico Club and for our Club.

The event will begin at 6:00 pm in the Atrium of the Bell Memorial Auditoriam at CSUC.  The program will be a special service club production of “Cabaret” by the CSUC Court Theatre in the Harlen Adams Theatre.

First, in the spirit of “Cabaret” dinner will be German Beer, wine, and a sausage dog.  At 7:30 pm will be a private production of “Cabaret”

Free parking is available in the parking lots directly across the street from the theatre and auditorium.

Tickets are $20.00 each and includes the dinner and a ticket to “Cabaret”.  The club has purchased 30 tickets.  Steve Greenwood now has them.  The club has purchased 30 tickets, but only 11 tickets had been purchased by the meeting this week.  CALL STEVE NOW AND ORDER YOURS.

It is important to occassionally do events with other clubs in our area.  We have not done the Tri-Club picnic lately, which we did most of the work for.  This time the Chico Club has done the work.  As Rotarians we have an obligation to participate and support them.  We also need to support CSUC’s efforts to recognize service clubs.  Besides, “Cabaret” is a very good play, with a message which is still important.  I saw it the first time on Broadway in 1968 and wouldn’t miss it again.  Please Call Steve NOW!  If 30 tickets are not enough more can be purchased if we know in time.

You can order your tickets from Steve by calling 891-4821, Ext. 106 (work), 873-6276 (home) sgreenwood@dpump.com (email) 521-2107 (cell) 891-0613 (fax).

CATHY LIU

As most of you know by now, Cathy Liu, the daughter of Jen and Pam Liu was struck by a motorist early last Friday morning while jogging.  She receive sever head injuries and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center where she had three surgeries to relieve pressure in her brain.  Cathy is a past recipient of our scholarships and had recently graduate from EMORY with a medical degree.  She had just begun her internship at UC Davis Medical Center, where she is now being treated.   The following is an update from Jen:

Dear friends,

Many of you may or may not have heard about the accident that happened to Cathy last Friday, July 6th. We wanted to wait to contact people because we were, at that point, unsure about the details of the accident and the extent of Cathy’s injuries. We still don’t know much, but we did want to share with you on what we know so far.

Cathy was struck by a car while running on the morning of the 6th in Sacramento. It was not a hit and run. She was rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center. She had severe head injuries and had to undergo three brain surgeries after she was admitted. Because Cathy was jogging she was not carrying any identification, she could not be identified at the hospital. It wasn’t until she did not show up for dinner that night with her boyfriend Brian Galluci that he started to worry. He went to her apartment to check on her and found that her keys, license, wallet, etc. were all there. The only thing that was missing were her running shoes. He then called us, and we in turn called the Chico and Sacramento Police Department. We were told that there was a Asian jogger in her twenties that was hit by a car in Sacramento and was admitted to the UC Davis Medical Center. Pam and I got there around five o’clock Saturday morning and Grace drove up from San Diego and arrived later Saturday night.

Cathy is still in intensive care and doctors are monitoring the pressure and oxygen level in her brain very carefully. Though, we have been reassured by doctors that she is not in a coma, in the true sense of the word, she is sedated and still has not woken up yet. Since Cathy had just started her residency here at UC Davis, the doctors all know who she is and are giving her the best care possible. She is making slow progress and we are told that her recovery time will be considerable and she will need a great deal of physical therapy when she does regain consciousness and strength. We hope that there are no complications that may affect her recovery.

We want to thank everyone for all their continual thoughts and prayers. We feel so blessed to have such great friends and that Cathy has such a strong support system to help her get through this. This is a hard time for all of us and from what it seems this is going to be a long arduous journey and we will be needing all of your support.

Thank you so much again for your prayers,

Jen, Pam, and Grace Liu
