  Pres. Andy called the meeting to order. Jim Kirks gave the invocation and Jane Ziad lead the flag salute.

Phil Price introduced Todd Shelton and Barry Sherwood of the Chico Rotary Club. Tom Knowles from the Willows Club (but not for long) was also introduced.

 

INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER

 

Bill Apger conducted the induction of Tom Knowles as our newest member.  Tom was formerly a member and past president of the Willows Club.  He and his wife Sara live in Durham, but for years he managed family farm property in the Willows area.  He now operates air charter service flying people to areas not well served by the airlines.  Welcome Tom.

ROTARY CLEAN UP DAY

 

Rotary Clean Up Day was last Saturday.  Dave Jessen reports that it was a success.  Many members showed up so that it didn’t take all that long to clean up the 4 corners area in Durham.  It is now ready for the Durham Parade this month.  Thank you to all who helped.

 

 

 

 

HARVEST FESTIVAL

 

 

 

 

 

The next monthly meeting of the Harvest Festival Committee will be on Thursday, May 24, 2007.  The meeting will be at the Italian Cottage on the Skyway, at 7:00 a.m.  All committee chairpersons must be present.

 

Applications for the Harvest Festival Car Show and the Craft Faire can now be downloaded from the Club web site. Forms for Harvest Festival sponsors can also be downloaded.

 

THE NEXT MEETING

 

Glenn Pulliam and/or Jim Patterson will present Richard Carpenter who will talk about his work modifying vans for accessibility.

 

Hot Dog Picnic

 

The meeting of May 22nd will be the Hot Dog Picnic at Durham Park, presented by Jen Liu and Roy Ellis.  They will have Interact members, Camp Royal students and Students of the Month present.   It was determined that this will be a spouses/significant other event.  So invite them.

 

District Family Fun Day

 

The District Rotary Foundation Family Fun Day will include held this Saturday May 5, 2007, from 11 am to 3 pm, at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum, 5848 State Highway 12, Suisun City, CA 94585.   The price is $25 per adult and $15 per child (under 2-free).  It is a western theme so come in your western clothes and bring chairs and blankets.  Also bring money for the silent auction.  Tom Vanella will obtain a case of 4 pound cans at a reasonable price for our clubs donation to the silent auction/raffle.  There will be a BBQ picnic, music, raffle prizes, a bounce house, a silent auction and train rides. 

 

The Western Railway Museum gives visitors the opportunity to ride historic streetcars and interurban electric trains from all over California and other western states. Streetcars loop the shaded picnic grounds. Interurban cars run over the restored main line of the old Sacramento Northern Railway. With over 50 historic cars on display, railway exhibits, the Museum Store and Gift Shop and the large, shaded picnic grounds, the Western Railway Museum is ideal for family and group outings

Rotary Foundation Fundraiser in Redding

 

Pres. Andy has received beautiful engraved invitations from the Redding Rotary Club. He circulated the invitations to the Moonlight on the River Gala, Saturday, June 30, 2007 among the members.This elegant affair entitled “Moonlight On The River” will be held on the Sun Dial Bridge and Turtle Bay Arboretum, in Redding, on Saturday, June 30, 2007, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  You will be sipping champagne while strolling on the Sundial bridge and having dinner in the garden patio, as the sun is setting and the moon is rising overhead.  It will be put on by the Redding and Anderson Clubs jointly.  It will include a gourmet dinner, part 2 of the raffle ticket drawing, silent auction, music and much more.  The price will be $125 per person or $1500 fpr a table of 8.  Reservation details will be forthcoming soon!  For more information contact Marlene Woodard, Event Coordinator at 244-4320 or office@aplannedaffair.net.

 

Joint Club Social Event of Chico Rotary and Chico Sunrise Rotary Clubs

 

Monday, May 21, 2007 at 1:00 pm with a shotgun start, at Canyon Oaks Country Club.  $90 for green fees, cart, range balls, prizes and Pasta Night Dinner following Golf (BBQ hamburger lunch included).  $25 for dinner only.  Call Ray Block – 879-4228 or Hugh Mattingly – 895-7552.

 

 

 

 

International Convention

 

The Rotary International Convention will be Sunday 06/17/07 09:00am - Wednesday 06/20/07 09:00pm in Salt Lake City.  The Rotary convention, often compared to a mini-United Nations conference, will attract Rotary club members from around the world to the state-of-the-art Salt Palace Convention Center. Rotary conventions held in the United States typically draw about 25,000 registrants.

 

RECOGNITIONS

 

Penny Chennel auctioned the Grinder.  President Andy got it for $100.00.  He announced that his last meeting during his Presidency will be May 22nd.  He will be traveling to Montana to assist a former secretary of his, who is a tribal chief.  He will be her escort during a Powwow and will assist her with some projects.  He hopes to be back in time for Bill Apger to demote him.

 

President Andy recognized Bill Apger for having been seen with the Club Bell when it was missing a few weeks ago.  Bill contributed $100 to his wife’s Paul Harris fellowship.

 

Daryl Polk was recognized for his 26th anniversary.  He contributed $26.00.

 

PROGRAM

 

Kent Jackson introduced Gary Briley whose Primetimer class Kent had attended.  Gary condenses a part of his class into a talk about Global Warming, Global Cooling, the evidence therefore and the future weather effects.
