VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

 

Pres. Andy asked Dave Jessen, Tom Vanella and Dan Davis to introduce visiting Rotarians.  Dave introduced Ric Leland from the Chico Club.  Tom’s and Dan’s table paid $1 each. 

 

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

In response to the request of the District Governer, President Andy asked Mike Crump to plan a Clean-Up project for Clean-up day on April 28th.  Mike reported that the Clean-Up project will be cleaning up the 4 corners area in Durham so it will clean for the Durham Parade which will follow shortly.  He passed around a sign-up sheet.  Please volunteer and show up at 9:00 am in April 28th.  It will last no longer than noon.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

 

 

 

The next monthly meeting of the Harvest Festival Committee will be on Thursday, April 19, 2007.  The meeting will be at the Italian Cottage on the Skyway, at 7:00 a.m.  All committee chairpersons must be present.

 

Camp Royal

 

Roy Ellis announce that the following students had been selected for Camp Royal this year:  Heather Rockwood, Laura Henman, Cody McHargue and Matt Mallarkey.

 

District Family Fun Day

 

The District Rotary Foundation Family Fun Day will include held on May 5, 2007, from 11 am to 3 pm, at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum, 5848 State Highway 12, Suisun City, CA 94585.   The price is $25 per adult and $15 per child (under 2-free).  It is a western theme so come in your western clothes and bring chairs and blankets.  Also bring money for the silent auction.  Tom Vanella will obtain a case of 4 pound cans at a reasonable price for our clubs donation to the silent auction/raffle.  There will be a BBQ picnic, music, raffle prizes, a bounce house, a silent auction and train rides. 

 

The Western Railway Museum gives visitors the opportunity to ride historic streetcars and interurban electric trains from all over California and other western states. Streetcars loop the shaded picnic grounds. Interurban cars run over the restored main line of the old Sacramento Northern Railway. With over 50 historic cars on display, railway exhibits, the Museum Store and Gift Shop and the large, shaded picnic grounds, the Western Railway Museum is ideal for family and group outings

Rotary Foundation Fundraiser in Redding

 

This elegant affair entitled “Moonlight On The River” will be held on the Sun Dial Bridge and Turtle Bay Arboretum, in Redding, on Saturday, June 30, 2007, beginning at 6:30 p.m.  You will be sipping champagne while strolling on the Sundial bridge and having dinner in the garden patio, as the sun is setting and the moon is rising overhead.  It will be put on by the Redding and Anderson Clubs jointly.  It will include a gourmet dinner, part 2 of the raffle ticket drawing, silent auction, music and much more.  The price will be $125 per person or $1500 fpr a table of 8.  Reservation details will be forthcoming soon!  For more information contact Marlene Woodard, Event Coordinator at 244-4320 or office@aplannedaffair.net.

 

Joint Club Social Event of Chico Rotary and Chico Sunrise Rotary Clubs

 

Monday, May 21, 2007 at 1:00 pm with a shotgun start, at Canyon Oaks Country Club.  $90 for green fees, cart, range balls, prizes and Pasta Night Dinner following Golf (BBQ hamburger lunch included).  $25 for dinner only.  Call Ray Block – 879-4228 or Hugh Mattingly – 895-7552.

 

DISTRICT

 

The District announced that Earl Kilmer has been elected District Governor for 2009-2010.

 

International Convention

 

In spite of President Andy’s understandable disagreement with the mayor of Salt Lake City, we must announce that the Rotary International Convention will be Sunday 06/17/07 09:00am - Wednesday 06/20/07 09:00pm in Salt Lake City.  The Rotary convention, often compared to a mini-United Nations conference, will attract Rotary club members from around the world to the state-of-the-art Salt Palace Convention Center. Rotary conventions held in the United States typically draw about 25,000 registrants.

 

CORRECTION

 

Someone actually reads the Rowel.  It has been pointed out to me that I have Srs. Marie Moran and Rosie Santian in the wrong country.  It is Peru, not Columbia.  Rosie is from Peru and Sr. Marie worked there.  It is people in Peru that they help each year, and for whom our money will be used, as our International Project for this year.

 

RECOGNITIONS

 

The first week of April has 4 members’ birthdays, Dave Jessen, Penny Chennel, Norm Larson and Mike Wacker.  Norm asked for the club to sing so the club sang to Norm, Dave and Mike.  They paid $7 each.  Penny was absent, probably because her birthday was tonight.  I assume she will be recognized next week

 

PROGRAM

 

Daryl Polk will introduced Arnold M. Corky Rey, MD.  He is a volunteer member of  Butte County Search and Rescue.  He spoke about that volunteer organization and its development into one of the most versatile and respected search and rescue units in the state.  During his talk, pictures of the team in operation were shown.

Phil Price was here to win the drawing.  Gee, that is the second time in a year.  But it was after a 5 year dry spell.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Board has approved the membership of Tom Knolls.  He was formerly a member of the Willows Club and a past president of that club.  He is proposed by Bill Apger.  His classification will be:  “Air Charter Service”.
