President Andy called the meeting to order.  Jim Patterson gave the invocation and Jen Liu led the pledge. 

Missed Meetings

This is a new feature, at the request of President Andy, to assist members in keeping up their attendance.  The following members need to make up this week’s meeting: No list this week.  But if you missed see below for makeups.

VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

 

Pres. Andy asked Dan Davis, Mike Wacker, and Jim Edwards to introduce visiting Rotarians.  Introduced was Larry Bradley, of the Oroville Noon Rotary Club (former member and president of Durham Rotary).  The members at Mike’s and Jim’s tables paid $1 each for not having a visiting Rotarian at their tables. 

 

Also introduce was guest, Sue Jessen, wife of member Dave Jessen. 

 

Steve Plume introduced Andy Famino, the new owner of Famino’s Family Market.  He talked briefly about his experiences in taking over the former Holiday Market in Durham, and future plans for the market.

 

 

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

President Andy mentioned several communications from the District covering such things as the Rotary Clean Up Day, recruiting of District Officers for the future and the Paul Harris Foundation.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

 

 

 

Steve Greenwood reminded members of the the Harvest Festival Committee Meeting this Thursday, which is being held as I write this.  The next monthly meeting of the Harvest Festival Committee will be on Thursday, April 19, 2007.  The meeting will be at the Italian Cottage on the Skyway, at 7:00 a.m.  All committee chairpersons must be present.

 

District Family Fun Day

 

The District Rotary Foundation Family Fun Day will include held on May 5, 2007, from 11 am to 3 pm, at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum, 5848 State Highway 12, Suisun City, CA 94585.   The price is $25 per adult and $15 per child (under 2-free).  It is a western theme so come in your western clothes and bring chairs and blankets.  Also bring money for the silent auction.  Tom Vanella will obtain a case of 4 pound cans at a reasonable price for our clubs donation to the silent auction/raffle.  There will be a BBQ picnic, music, raffle prizes, a bounce house, a silent auction and train rides. 

 

The Western Railway Museum gives visitors the opportunity to ride historic streetcars and interurban electric trains from all over California and other western states. Streetcars loop the shaded picnic grounds. Interurban cars run over the restored main line of the old Sacramento Northern Railway. With over 50 historic cars on display, railway exhibits, the Museum Store and Gift Shop and the large, shaded picnic grounds, the Western Railway Museum is ideal for family and group outings

Rotary Foundation Fundraiser in Redding

 

This elegant affair entitled “Moonlight On The River” will be held on the Sun Dial Bridge on June 30, 2007 in Redding.  It will include a gourmet dinner, part 2 of the raffle ticket drawing, silent auction, music and much more.  Reservation details will be forthcoming soon!

 

Joint Club Social Event of Chico Rotary and Chico Sunrise Rotary Clubs

 

Monday, May 21, 2007 at 1:00 pm with a shotgun start, at Canyon Oaks Country Club.  $90 for green fees, cart, range balls, prizes and Pasta Night Dinner following Golf (BBQ hamburger lunch included).  $25 for dinner only.  Call Ray Block – 879-4228 or Hugh Mattingly – 895-7552.

 

International Convention

 

In spite of President Andy’s understandable disagreement with the mayor of Salt Lake City, we must announce that the Rotary International Convention will be Sunday 06/17/07 09:00am - Wednesday 06/20/07 09:00pm in Salt Lake City.  The Rotary convention, often compared to a mini-United Nations conference, will attract Rotary club members from around the world to the state-of-the-art Salt Palace Convention Center. Rotary conventions held in the United States typically draw about 25,000 registrants.

 

RECOGNITIONS

 

President Andy noted that Jim Edwards had contributed only $4 so far this year.  Jim claimed accounting errors as he was sure he had contributed more than that.  He agreed to contribute $46 for his new titanium knee.
