VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

Pres. Andy asked Dan Davis, Dar Meyer, Jim Kirks and Clint Goss to introduce visiting Rotarians.  Introduced were Al Lotspeich (former member and President of Durham Rotary) and Fred Muller of the Chico Sunrise Club and Dave Rush of the Chico Club.  We also had several students who were Interact members (See below).

Annie Marie and Kevin Spafford, parents of one of the students, were introduced as guests.

Also introduce as a guest was Tom Knoles, who was a guest of Bill Apger, except that Bill was absent ($$$$$?).

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Daryl Polk briefly reported on PETS, which he attended last weekend.

CAMP ROYAL

Roy Ellis announce that the interviews of students for Camp Royal this year will be held nest week.  Any member who wants to assist in the interviews should contact Roy.

INSURANCE

Phil Price reported upon his investigation, at President Andy’s request, of insurance coverage for the Club.  The Club is covered under the U. S. Rotary Club & District General Liability Insurance Program, which covers all clubs and districts in the United States.  Each member is assessed for the insurance, as part of his/her dues.  The assessment is $2.74 per member, except in California, where it is $3.62 per member.  You can find out more on the RI web site.  I have also verified it through Sudhir Sahni, the District Insurance Chairperson, who can be reached at sunnycan7@aol.com.

THE NEXT MEETING

I am a little confused.  I am assuming that Steve Plume has moved back to March 20th and will present Andy Famino the new owner of Famino’s Family Market who will talk about his experiences in taking over the former Holiday Market in Durham.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Steve Greenwood reminded members of the the Harvest Festival Committee Meeting this Thursday, which is being held as I write this.  The next monthly meeting of the Harvest Festival Committee will be on Thursday, April 19, 2007.  The meeting will be at the Italian Cottage on the Skyway, at 7:00 a.m.  All committee chairpersons must be present.

District Family Fun Day

The District Family Fun Day will include a visit to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Suisun City.  The District has asked for each club to donate to a raffle.  Tom Vanella will obtain a case of 4 pound cans at a reasonable price.  When it is, is still a mystery.  There still is no information on the Fun Day on the District’s web page.

International Convention

In spite of President Andy’s understandable disagreement with the mayor of Salt Lake City, we must announce that the Rotary International Convention will be Sunday 06/17/07 09:00am - Wednesday 06/20/07 09:00pm in Salt Lake City.  The Rotary convention, often compared to a mini-United Nations conference, will attract Rotary club members from around the world to the state-of-the-art Salt Palace Convention Center. Rotary conventions held in the United States typically draw about 25,000 registrants.

International Project

Norm Larson move that we grant the $1500 we have set aside for our International Project to Sr. Marie Moran and Rosie Santian to use in their work in Columbia.  The motion was seconded and passed.

Students of the Month and Interact

Roy Ellis introduced Melisa Charbonneau, President of the Interact Club.  She reported on its activities.  Monday and Wednesdays they watch children at the elementary school while their parents are taking adult classes.  The have an Easter activity planned.  She reported that they have approximately 40-45 members (maybe we need their help with our membership).

Roy also announce that the $500+ raised at the Crab Feed for the Interact Club’s help, will, at the Interact Club’s request, be used for a scholarship in the Interact Club’s name.

Melisa then introduced Gina Gutierrez who was awarded our Student of the Month award for January.

Gina then introduced Mary Grzanich who was awarded our Student of the Month award for February.

Mary then introduced Melisa Charbonneau who was awarded our Student of the Month award for March.

Melisa then introduced Sara Spafford who was awarded our Student of the Month award for April.

RECOGNITIONS

Last week, when Kent Jackson became a Bell Ringer, he demanded that the Bell be rung.  President Andy confessed that he had left the bell in his other car and contributed $10 for not having the bell.  He promised to allow Kent to ring it this week.  This week he offered the little bell he has been using to protect the Club Bell from the larcenous nature of out members.  Kent refused and demanded the real bell.  President Andy finally produced the Club Bell and Kent rang it.

Roy Ellis auctioned the Grinder for March.  However, it was so late in March that it elicited few bids.  So it was extended to cover April.  Penny got it for $90, but refused to comment on why she wanted it.  Anyone want to guess?

Chris Hatch, who missed some meetings with his dogs, contributed $30 to make him a Bell Ringer.

Jane Ziad contributed $16 (so far) for a planned trip to Ottawa in April.

Phil Price volunteered $25 for his trip to Las Vegas last month, which President Andy missed, even though his missing a meeting and the nature of the Rowel that week, should have given him a clue.  Phil also got to ring the Bell.

PROGRAM

See the report above on the Interact Club and the Student of the Month awards.  That was our program.

Must  Be Present To Win Drawing

The cage was misplaced last week, so there were two drawings this week.  Glenn Pulliam won for last week and Jim Patterson won for this week.
