VISITING
ROTARIANS:
Pres. Andy asked for a
volunteer, at the only table with a visiting Rotarian, to introduce Rick Leland
of the Chico Club. Steve Plume
volunteered and did it.
REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
THE
According to the
schedule given to me at the first of the year, Jim Edwards will present a
program at the next meeting, however, what it is
remains a mystery. It hasn’t been
reported to me by press time, Thursday morning.
What I know will happen
at the next meeting is that Jane Ziad will have a
Durham Girl Scout troop present to sell Girl Scout Cookies. She tantalized us by passing cookies around
after dinner. It was suggested that the
club purchase a years supply for desert at our meetings. Anyway, bring your money.

HARVEST FESTIVAL
Steve Greenwood has announced that the next monthly meeting
of the Harvest Festival Committee will be on
Steve also announced that we are moving our storage. He sought volunteers to help him and Tom Vanella in doing the final moving earlier this week.
ROTOPLAST
The club
voted to approve donation of $600 to Rotoplast this
year.
PETS
Daryl Polk, President Elect will attend PETS next weekend. This conference is required for all 2007-2008
Club President-Elects and others from District 5160. It will be at the DoubleTree
Hotel in
District Family Fun Day
President
Andy announced that the District Family Fun Day will include a visit to the
International Convention
In spite of President Andy’s
understandable disagreement with the mayor of Salt Lake City, we must announce
that the Rotary International Convention will be Sunday 06/17/07 09:00am -
Wednesday 06/20/07 09:00pm in Salt Lake City.
The Rotary convention, often compared to a mini-United Nations
conference, will attract Rotary club members from around the world to the
state-of-the-art
RECOGNITIONS
Pres. Andy recognized Tom Vanella
for his 46th Anniversary on February 25th. Actually, Tom needed to check the Rotary
calendar to verify that it was on the 25th not the 24th. Anyway, he contributed $46.00.
PROGRAM
Jim Kirks presented
Derek Wolfgram, the new Butte County Librarian. Derek’s father is currently the president of
a Rotary Club in the mid-west. Derek
spoke about his journey to his occupation as a librarian and how he got to
Must Be Present To Win Drawing
Bruce Miller was not present to win the drawing.
(We have heard about the Paul Harris Society, but most of us don’t
know much about what it is. The
following, from the District Web Site, may clear it up).
Paul Harris
Society
The Paul Harris Society (PHS) is a new level of recognition of Rotarians and friends who contribute $1,000 or more each fiscal year to The Rotary Foundation's humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs. The Foundation Trustees adopted the Paul Harris Society as an official recognition program to be administered at the district level effective in 2006-07.
In 1999, District Governor Wayne Cusick created the first Paul Harris Society in District 5340. Today 119 districts around the world have a PHS program with a total membership of more than 2500. In District 5160, District Governor Brian Thiessen initiated our PHS in 2005-06. During its Charter Year, 59 Rotarians and others became PHS members.
Our district has a tradition of generous Foundation giving to promote world peace and understanding. We are increasingly involved in and supportive of Rotary Foundation Programs. Our Paul Harris Society was established in response to the need for more contributions to Annual and Restricted Giving.
Each PHS member receives an officially-presented recognition certificate signed by the District Governor, a distinctive gold and blue PHS recognition pin to be worn with a Rotary pin or a Paul Harris pin, an invitation for two to the annual Paul Harris Society Dinner, and recognition at selected other events or activities during the year.
While this new level of recognition will not be appropriate for every Rotarian, it is available for those who chose to give at this level each year. For more information or with questions, please contact Sheila Hurst, Paul Harris Society, District 5160 Chair, sheilahurst@mac.com , (530) 244-2111.
