THE NEXT MEETING

The next meeting will be the annual Valentines Day dinner, hosted by Jane Ziad.  Jane reports that a good meal is planned at the Butte Creek Country Club and she will be bringing desert (not cookies).  A barber shop quartet will perform.  She is going to produce some Valentine related items for a raffle.

This is, of course, a spouse or significant other event.  So bring your wife, husband, girlfriend and/or boyfriend, but not more than one of them.  If you haven’t signed up with Jane, please call her so she can give BCCC an accurate count.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

It is that time of year again.  Steve Greenwood has announced that the first monthly meeting of the Harvest Festival Committee will meet on Thursday, February 15, 2007.  The meeting will be at the Italian Cottage on the Skyway, at 7:00 a.m.  All committee chairpersons must be present to get things started.

INTERACT CLUB

Melissa Charvonneau, President of the Durham High School Interact Club, reported that the club members had a great time assisting us at the Crab Feed.  She also reported that the club was working on a number of projects at the present time.  One is working with the Durham Elementary School to help with the children of migrant workers.

Glenn Pulliam reported that his wife had commented that the Interact members had done the best job ever in assisting at the Crab Feed.

District Family Fun Day

President Andy announced that the District Family Fun Day will include a visit to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Suisun City.  The District has asked for each club to donate to a raffle.  Jim Edwards proposed cans of almonds.  Tom Vanella will obtain a case of 4 pound cans at a reasonable price.  I do not have any other information on the Fun Day as nothing is yet on the District’s web page.

Rotary Ski Challenge

The Rotary Club of Tahoe City presents the 31st Annual Dick Linkey Rotary Ski Challenge on Friday, March 2, 2007.  They tout this as the largest gathering of skiing Rotarians in the world.  For more information go to their web site at:  www.tahoecityrotary.org.  The completed registration package must be completed and delivered to them by February 23, 2007.   They also mentioned their Tahoe Cup Challenge at the Coyote Moon Golf Course on June 14, 2007.  Register for this at: www.tcgolf,golfreg.com.

RECOGNITIONS

Pres. Andy asked if any Rotarians had or were having a birthday.  None volunteered.  Actually my calendar does not show any until the middle of the month.

He also asked if anyone had had an anniversary.  There are several of those this month.

Clint Goss, whose 49th anniversary was February 1st and I, whose 48th anniversary was January 31st volunteered, and contributed $49 and $48 respectively.

There followed a discussion of long marriages and adding up the multiple marriages of those who are getting away with a few dollars just because their last marriage was recent.  K. R.  agreed that all of his would probably add up to over 50 years.  Remember that, K. R., later this month.

PROGRAM

Mike Crump introduced Paul McIntosh, Chief Administrative Officer of Butte County.  He spoke about the re-licensing of Oroville Dam, with a Power Point presentation.  He explained the adverse economic impact the dam and lake have had on Butte County, which the State has not compensated the County for.  Among those things is the loss of property taxes from the land taken, including a P.G.&E. power plant, the police and emergency services needed, the impact on roads, increased welfare which followed the completion of the work when the workers’ families stayed in Butte County, all adding up to an net impact on the County of $4,560,345 annually.
